I’m so sorry that I have not had time to blog in a minute; life has been a little bit of a whirlwind since Christmas Break. You know that saying, “when you want to hear God laugh, tell him YOUR plans!” That could not describe my life more right now!
A little back story, seven years ago, I left teaching after being a preschool teacher for six years and three years of college towards a degree in early education. I have always loved teaching, from my Sunday school classes to PreK, but after overextending myself for a very long time, I was beyond burned out. I swore I was NEVER going back to teaching in any form because doing it well requires so much time and energy, and I pour my whole heart into it! But at Thanksgiving, my dad shared that my youngest brother and sister (a pair of 9-year-old twins) were struggling in school. They had moved here from Honduras a year earlier, and between the language barrier and COVID lockdowns, they just couldn’t seem to catch up, especially my brother. I half-jokingly said to him, “you should just send them to me, and I can get caught up!”.
Over the next few weeks, that comment manifested itself into a reality. My new “job” is working with my brother for a few hours a day co-homeschool him (with his parents). The girls and I also do homework help/ tutoring in the afternoons with my sister (and a few of our cousins). And to be completely honest…. I LOVE IT! It has taken me a little bit to find a balance (hence the no blogs), but it is so rewarding seeing them improve and feeling proud of themselves because they understand what they are learning.
One of their favorites was an end of "unit" lunch where he made everything. Every food item was themed after Star Wars (which so is most of his workbooks to help guide his skills!)
